http://www.bp.com/productlanding.do?categoryId=6848&contentId=7033471

This site has a link to an excel file that has everything with regards to energy- production, consumption, reserves, discoveries.

the excel sheet directly- http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_internet/globalbp/globalbp_uk_english/reports_and_publications/statistical_energy_review_2007/STAGING/local_assets/downloads/spreadsheets/statistical_review_full_report_workbook_2007.xls

Sorted by region, fuel type, year- this allows us to look at the raw data- or as best we can get it. We can examine the numbers ourselves- draw our own conclusions- as our own questions.

Some questions will be posted later that reference this document.

Assignment - BP Statistical Review- 2006 -

You are to review the document, an excel file, found at http://www.bp.com/liveassets/bp_internet/globalbp/globalbp_uk_english/reports_and_publications/statistical_energy_review_2007/STAGING/local_assets/downloads/spreadsheets/statistical_review_full_report_workbook_2007.xls.

Here you can find what is deemed to be reliable and trustworthy data regarding the past- prices, supplies, generation, and demand for different sources of energy production.

You are to spend some time reviewing the data, moving among the many tabs of information that BP has compiled, and select a particular worksheet that interests you. Then, using the chart wizard tool found in excel, you are to first cut and paste the data you will represent in some form of chart or graph, putting it together on the worksheet so it can be graphed. By highlighting the data and labels you are choosing to use, the chart wizard will help you to represent that data in a chart or graph of your choice.

Please label the axis and title the graph, include a source, and provide a paragraph or so as to why you selected this data, and what you are showing with your graph. The goal is to create a display, hopefully we can acquire some space on a bulletin board in the hallway, that shows the state of affairs with regards to the current energy situation.

This assignment will be due on Friday, April 4, by 7th period. If you are not in class on Friday, I will expect it in my email or in my mailbox in 111 by 8am Monday.

For those who are new to excel, or are unfamiliar with chart wizard, I will hold a brief excel tutoring session Wednesday 9th period in room 406. I was unable to reserve the lab during our class period during this week.

Due Friday, April 4:
1. 1 or more charts or graphs created from data form the BP Statistical Review 2006. Include source, titles, and your name.
2. The associated data from the excel page reformatted for clarity- the data from the review is extensive- you are to select out only the data you are graphing.
3. A description of what you are graphing, possibly including why you chose this particular data, what we are viewers of this data should see, and how/ why this might be of interest to someone who is not in our class.
